The white whale of early watercooled. Every mk2 fanatic dreams of finding a Montana Green GTI. One of the most standout and iconic colors created by VW. After searching for 10 years, we discovered there was one right down the street all along…and it was for sale.

Documented below is the restoration process of this classic. After acquiring the car and performing some mechanical work to get this machine running and driving properly again, we tore it all down for a full respray.

  • Reshot in original Montana Green color code

  • 16v Recaro velour interior swap

  • BBS RA’s from 1992 GLI 16v

  • Smoked Hella euro tail lights

  • NOS roof gutters, window seals, and front grille

  • Power Window and mirror install from 1992 GLI 16v
